Our Family

For over a quarter of a century, we’ve opened our doors and hearts to guests from around the world.  Many of our guests return year after year and have become dear friends. Maybe it’s because of Beth’s incredible, home-cooked meals or the experience of a working dairy farm.  Perhaps it is the allure of the peace and quiet of this stunningly beautiful corner of Vermont or the chance to milk a cow!   Some folks come to celebrate anniversaries, others family reunions. Business groups stay here for a change of pace from the typical meeting room. Whatever the reason for your visit, we are blessed to be able to share our home and our way of life with you.  Are you looking for outdoor adventure or for a quiet retreat? Liberty Hill Farm offers the best of both.  You are always welcome here!  From our family to yours…

Family

A Family Affair

Beth’s ancestors began farming in 1641 in Alfred, Maine,on Clover Hill Farm where she grew up, so she’s a ninth generation farmer.  Nearly 100 years later, Bob’s family, the Kennett’s, came from Scotland in 1742 and started farming in Center Effingham, N.H.  John Emerson was one of the first settlers in Rochester in 1780. We are only the fifth family to own this farm since 1780!

Today, our sons,Tom and David, along with a new generation of grandchildren, work with us to continue the proud tradition at Liberty Hill Farm.  Tom majored in agricultural business at SUNY Cobleskill in New York, where he met his wife, Jennifer, a practicing nurse.  Their young twins, Calvin and Tucker, soon will be seasoned mini-farmers with siblings Amelia and Wyatt following close behind.  David earned his degree in animal science from the University of Vermont and is an expert judge of dairy animals.  Come country fair time, he is in great demand and his prize cow, Robeth Mandel Winnie, has been a Grand Champion. David and his wife Johanna are delighted with their daughter, Ella, and look forward to her joining daddy in the show ring.

We don’t think of farming as a job or a chore, but rather as an extension of who we are. Being able to share our love of the land and our dairy with others from around the world has added an extra, enriching dimension to our lives.
